What Can You Do in Winter in Canada

Updated: August 11th, 2020

You may think that winter snow and cold temperatures offer the perfect opportunity to stay indoors by the fireplace, but this is actually your chance to enjoy the Canadian winter with plenty of fun activities to keep you entertained all day long.

Skate along the Rideau Canal

Situated in Ottawa, the Rideau Canal starts at the foot of the parliament buildings and runs for 8 kilometres through the city. In winter, this iconic river freezes over and the residents of Ottawa take to the ice with their families to go ice-skating and skiing. Organised ice hockey games are played daily and some people even ice-skate to work.

Winter zip lining

What is more exhilarating than flying through the air, high above the trees on a zip-lining course? Now you can experience this activity in the winter with a trip above the snow and ice of some of the most beautiful forests in Canada. One of the best places to visit for this activity is Marble Mountain in Newfoundland.

Canoeing

This physical activity is extremely popular in Canada and with so many lakes and rivers running through major cities and towns, it is easy to see why.

The most popular run is the Rideau Canal which winds its way through the city of Ottawa and into the mountains for over 190 kilometres.
